Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker and his Panipat team were in for a surprise recently when legendary singer Asha Bhonsle not only paid them a visit on the sets but also offered to direct a scene. Based on the third battle of Panipat, the movie stars Arjun Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Kriti Sanon. A DNA report said that Asha visited the film sets in Karjat and directed a scene picturised on Mohnish Bahl and Padmini Kolhapure. While Mohnish plays Nana Saheb, Padmini essays the role of Gopika Bai in the film. She brought in such vibrant energy and spread a lot of cheer,” says Gowariker. About her calling the shots on a scene, the filmmaker said, “I must say, she does have a knack for direction, too. We were thrilled to have her on the sets and I hope she keeps surprising me like this with such wonderful visits.” The film is based on the third battle of Panipat that took place in 1761 between the Maratha forces and the invading army of the King of Afghanistan, Ahmad Shah Abdali. They were supported by two Indian allies – Shuja-ud-Daula, the Nawab of Awadh, and the Rohilla Afghans of the Doab .Arjun plays the Maratha ruler Sadashiv Rao while Sanjay essays the role of the invading Afghan King, Ahmad Shah Abdali. It is slated to release on December 6, 2019.
