Man cuts off wife’s hair ‘over dowry’ in Rajbari

A man has been arrested in Rajbari over cutting off his wife’s hair after torturing her for what is seemingly because of dowry demand.
The arrestee Riaz Pramanik, 30, son of Oyazed Pramanik in Baliakandi upazila, has been arrested along with his mother Morium Nesa, 55, our local correspondent reports.
According to what the victim told The Daily Star today, the couple married back in 2013. Since marriage, Riaz has been demanding Tk 50,000 every two or three months.
“When my father failed to fulfil his demand, he started torturing me. He sent me to my father’s house,” she said. “On Thursday Riaz tortured me again over dowry.”
“He along with his mother cut off my hair,” she said.
On information, police rescued the woman from the house of her in-laws. Muhammad Aziz Ahmed, a sub-inspector of Baliakandi Police Station said the victim filed a case.
“The man and his mother has been arrested. They were produced before a court. The court sent them to jail,” the police officer told The Daily Star.
