To kick off the celebrations, we have a special treat for all her fans: a gallery of the choicest throwback pictures from her early days in Bollywood. Rani made her Hindi movie debut in 1996 with Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat. While the movie did not age well over the years, Rani did find a strong footing in the industry by carefully selecting her projects. She played the damsel in distress, the romantic interest and the dying woman in many movies but in the later stages of her career, found a calling in more empowered roles. Rani worked in several films with all the Khans of Bollywood. She worked with Shah Rukh Khan in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Chalte Chalte and Paheli, with Salman Khan in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega and Hello Brother, with Aamir Khan in Ghulam and Talaash and with Saif Ali Khan in Hum Tum. Rani has won the Filmfare Award for films like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black, Hum Tum, Yuva and No One Killed Jessica. They welcomed their daughter Adira in 2015 and she took a long break from acting after becoming a mother. Rani returned to the big screen in 2018 with Hichki, a film that earned her a lot of accolades. She played a high school teacher with the Tourette’s syndrome in the film. The film was a big hit and went on to make almost Rs 250 crore at the box office.“I was worried the first time I left Adira at home,” she told Hindustan Times in an interview last year. “But I know so many mothers who had to get back to work just three months after delivering a baby. I had the luxury of a 14-months-long break. I chose to wait that long because Adira was a premature baby, and I was totally immersed in looking after her. Adi realised I was getting too consumed in her, so he pushed me back to work. His constant cajoling was irritating, but if he hadn’t done it, I am not sure if I would be sitting here giving this interview today.”But not just great movies, Rani also made some really good friends all through her career in Bollywood.
